Congressional District 3, NE — We, The People
WHO ARE WE? Setting Records
Nebraska's 3rd Congressional District, which covers the vast western three-fourths of the state (including 80 counties, the Sandhills region, and much of the Platte River valley), is one of the most reliably Republican areas in the U.S. Its Cook Partisan Voting Index (CPVI) stands at R+27, meaning it votes about 27 percentage points more Republican than the national average in presidential elections—making it the most Republican district outside Appalachia and the 11th most Republican district nationally. This conservatism stems from a combination of geographic, demographic, economic, and historical factors.
Demographics & Economy
- The population is predominantly white (around 85-90% based on state trends), older (median age of 40), and skewed toward Republican registration.
- Nebraska overall has only 29% Democratic voters—the lowest in 50 years with CD3 even more lopsided.
- The Third District is the largest agriculture district in America based on total value of products sold (USDA report).
- We are the second largest district in value of livestock and poultry, and the third in value of crops.
- Incumbent Rep. Adrian Smith (R) has held the seat since 2006, routinely winning by 78+ points.
